Pantone Color of the Year Challenge

We had such a great response to our Pantone Color of the Year Challenge that we wanted to give it its own blog post! Pantone's Color of the Year for 2017 is Greenery.

First, we wanted to thank Pennington Quilt Works for their generous donation of a bolt of Kona Lime for the guild to use in the challenge. Each member who signed up received a piece of the fabric to use to make an 18x18" modern quilt. There weren't any specific directions except to have fun playing, so the quilts our members came back with showcase styles across a broad spectrum.

Second, we are proud to announce the quilts will be shown in a special exhibition at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in Oaks, PA September 14-17, 2017! They're going to look so great hanging together! (Members: you'll get a message soon about the information needed from you for the display.) Big thanks to Janet for making this all happen!

Third.. the pictures! There were a TON of quilts - it looks like we'll have about thirty for the show - so we tried to break them into little groups so you can see better.

April meeting recap

A lot went on in our April meeting, so the Pantone Color of the Year Challenge will have its own post in a couple of days!

We started the meeting with a few announcements for members - signups are open for two upcoming sew days as well as the Trill workshop with Melanie Tuazon (see Bigtent for workshop details and to RSVP to the sew days). Signups will open on May 1 for the one hour basket swap with NJMQG.

We talked a little bit about the Quilt Alliance; if you're interested in learning more, click on the link!

Then we discussed the ways we make money with quilting and sewing. There were a variety of answers, including professional longarming, working in the fabric industry, commission sewing, and by selling our art.

Once again, our members knocked it out of the park with what they brought for Show and Tell:

February Meeting Recap

It's February in New Jersey, a great time to get snuggled in your quilts and read about our last meeting!

As we came in, we were greeted by personalized cookies to celebrate our Spark Joy event. AMAZING!
001 hello cookies

We had announcements about some upcoming events, including two workshops that members can sign up for right now, see the News section of Bigtent for details. Reminder that going forward members are responsible for their own name tags - you can keep using the printed ones, or you can make a quilty one. If you forget yours, we will have HELLO MY NAME IS stickers handy.

QuiltCon is next week! Several of our members will be attending, and we hope everyone gets in the fun on Instagram and other social media.

The Quilt and Sewing Fest of New Jersey will be held in Somerset March 2-5, and will feature a special exhibit of work by member Jess Skultety, if you would like to attend!

The members who already made their name tags shared them, and I apologize for not gathering them together for a photo. Next month!

Our members shared their recent work from the MQG's Block of the Month:

The Guild Bee made asterisk blocks for Lee:

After Show and Tell, we had our break, and opened up our Spark Joy event. Members had tables set up with items they no longer wanted that were sorted for free, for sale, or for silent auction. We hope that everyone who participated had fun!
