February Meeting Recap

Our February meeting was held on Tuesday, February 12. This post summarizes the minutes, which can be found here (taken by our new secretary, Kathy!)

News:
  • Dues are (over)due to Kristina, for the year! Get them to her ASAP.
  • We have blocks that can be taken from any meeting to be made into charity lap quilts.
  • Our president, Jessica Levitt, is presenting at workshop on Color Theory for the Modern Quilter!
    • Saturday, March 23 from 1-4 pm
    • At Pennington Quilt Works
    • Free to members, no sewing involved
    • More info and RSVP here!
  • QuiltCon, the first Modern Quilt Guild convention, just happened in Austin, TX. Super, super jealous. We'll get a full report at the March meeting!
  • If you are interested in joining a bee within our guild, email the account (centraljerseymqg@gmail.com).
  • If you would like to participate in a possible guild retreat in April, also email the account.
Discussion/Lesson:

Jessica L. gave a presentation on quilt labels, and we discusses/showed examples of our own work. Some of these were machine or hand embroidered, or hand printed.

Jess also gave a mini tutorial on Google Reader (to read blogs) and Pinterest (pretty much the most inspirational place on the web!).

Spotlight on Lori Saporito - pictures to come!

Challenge: Members shared their Madrona Road projects.

Finally, we had show and tell. Pictures will be added soon!

Next Meeting - March 12, 2013

Swap: Create a 4"x6" postcard - one side must be paper pieced. Draw your own or adapt something from online. You may use interfacing (timtex) or batting, or both. You can either finish the edges or not. Abstract or not... you choose!

Challenge: Add a label to something that does not already have one and bring it to share.

Discussion: Thread - bring in samples of your favorites and we will discuss quality, use, etc.

Spotlight: Joyce Hughes.

P.S. Sorry I couldn't make it in February! See all of you March 12!
