Hello and welcome to 2018! Our first meeting of the year was on January 10th.
First, I'd like to remind everyone registration for the spring retreat March 9-11 at Hyatt House is open to CJMQG members. To register, send your check directly to Neva (see the News section of Bigtent). Registration will be open to nonmembers by the end of January. Retreats are super fun and we hope to see you there!
January is when we hold our annual board elections. We elected co-presidents Jamee Pemberton and Janneke Van der Ree, Secretary Lee Burnham, and Treasurer Christine Johnston! Congratulations and thank you for stepping up!
The last blocks for 2017's round of the Guild Bee were paper pieced kite tails for Sue S.
This was the first month of our Modern Free Motion Quilting Quilt-A-Long - the #modernfmqqal! We had tons of participants at our meeting and are delighted to see how many people are following along online. January's theme was loops.
For Show and Tell we saw a few beautiful things:
This meeting's Show and Tell was a little uncharacteristically light.. But only because it was time for the SECRET QUILTER GIFT EXCHANGE, which is so much fun. Each person opens their gift, and we all try to guess who made it!
See you next month!

Modern FMQ QAL: February
Welcome to Month 2 of the Modern FMQ QAL! We had 17 ladies bring in quilted quilt sandwiches for February. Well done, everyone! Remember, guild members and those following from afar can share their work on Instagram with the hashtags #modernfmqqal and #cjmqg. There's some lovely inspiration over there!
Keep it up!

Modern FMQ QAL Begins!
We're so excited to kick off the Modern Free Motion Quilting Quilt Along! The January theme (loops) and tutorials were posted last month, and we can't wait to see what our members will bring on their first quilt sandwiches to the January meeting next week. There might be a couple of prizes... just saying. And the February theme will be announced there, with the Google Doc updated the next day (Thurs. 1/11!).
For all of you who are joining us from afar, welcome! We can't wait to see what you quilt up this year. This is a free opportunity to work on your free motion quilting skills, no matter what skill level you are. Please check out the main QAL page for all the information.
Sharing is a huge part of this QAL! Whether you're choosing fabrics for your sampler quilt or finishing up your January quilting, we'd love to see what you're making on Instagram. Please use the hashtags #modernfmqqal and #cjmqg!
Please note: I just clarified the fabric requirements section. Below is the change (it's updated on the main page, too). I made this suggestion at the December guild meeting but until now did not update the website to reflect. Thank you!
Please email me if you have any questions!

Fabric Requirements
- (20) fat quarters (18"x22") to make quilt sandwiches - 10 on the front, 10 on the back
- For best results, use solid or like-solid fabrics for the 10 front-facing fabrics
- To leave yourself adequate room to grip your quilt sandwich as you quilt, cut your front-facing fabrics to 14" x 18".
Please email me if you have any questions!
