September Meeting Recap

Upcoming Events:

• Sun., Sept. 23 from 2-7 pm: Monthly Sewcial - come sew with other guild members! At Sandy's house - RSVP here and Sandy will send you her address
• October 5-7 - Courthouse Quilters show in Stockton, NJ at Prallsville Mill
• Sun., October 7 from 10 am-5 pm - Kaffe Fasset workshop - all info and RSVP here - a few more seats!
• Tues., October 9 at 7pm - October meeting

Challenge/Swap:
Members shared their improv blocks, made from scraps swapped at the August meeting, as well as an FQ of Kona Sage. Some improv blocks were set aside to be made into charity quilts, and some were swapped among members.

Discussion/Educational Topic:
Jessica, our president, presented a slideshow on modern composition, to inspire us and to give us ideas for the October challenge (see below).

We also had a spotlight on Janneke - we will be spotlighting different members at upcoming meetings!

October Discussion: (for October 9)
Bring or share the organization system you use to carry around sewing projects (this should be very informative!). We will also be spotlighting Janet.

October Challenge: Sew something into a modern composition using the improv blocks you have sewn and swapped for.

Modern Monday #8: 9/9/2012

Modern Monday posts detail happenings and trends in the modern quilt blog world. I will discuss general news, significant contests and their results, new quilt-a-longs, and post flickr inspiration boards. My hope is that everyone, both CJMQG members and modern quilters around the internet, will find some inspiration and get involved with the online world!

Happenings:

At a(squared)w, the Festival of Hexagons just ended. Participants had to make some kind of quilty good using hexagons. See the winners here and the linky post here for lots of inspiration!

 

Check out the Mod Pop Quilt Along at she can quilt! It starts on Sept. 12, and there are several sponsors giving away prizes throughout the QAL. See the picture and info here, flickr group here.

September Meeting Reminder

Join us for our September meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11 @ 7pm, Pennington Quilt Works, Pennington, NJ! Guests welcome! RSVP here.

At this meeting we will:
- Have an Improv block challenge/swap - share, swap, and donate your improv blocks using the solid fabric (Kona Sage) we handed out last month - the blocks should be at least 12 1/2" in one direction - scrappy improv blocks are what we're going for (refer to last meeting or this post). Bring whatever you make to show the group!

- Have a discussion/demo on modern composition to give you ideas for your improv blocks

-Spotlight on member - Janneke

-General Business and regular Show and Tell

Congrats, Joyce!!

Great news - our very own Joyce Hughes has advanced to the final round in the professional category of the McCalls Quilt Design Star contest!

She wanted to thank those of you that have voted for her.

You can see the finalists here. Voting will begin on the next round on October 2, and you can vote from the link above at that time.

Those who were at the July Sewcial will remember Joyce sharing one of her quilts for this competition. Congrats, Joyce!
